Belonging
Belonging,
Is a chain that binds you.
A chain that can set you free,
Or constrain you forever.
Good or bad;
Only you can decide.
Many words sit alongside belonging.
These words are the chains that bind you.
Equally; the roles you play.
It’s a deal already done; you just don’t know it.
Parents and siblings,
Auntie’s and uncles; hold space and time.
Home draws us in.
Creating a sense of safety; of belonging.
Throughout life I have,
Been afraid.
Wrestled with danger.
Danced with the devil.
Disappointed my parents.
And equally made them proud.
I have gone astray.
Caused mayhem.
But still I belonged.
Always.
Sometimes I felt I didn’t fit in.
Maybe I was right.
But whether I did or I didn’t,
Is no matter;
For I was and always will be;
Loved.
