In the avenues and alleyways...
23rd July – it’s our birthday. We were in York. We looked up and saw a back alley. We’d not noticed it before, so we thought we’d walk through it. Mike said ‘It’s just a back alley’ I said ‘it’s much more than that. It has a life of its own. A story to tell’.
It reminded me of the theme music to the Protectors – In the avenues and alleyways –
‘Where the soul of a man is easy to buy…’
But, it’s not just a back alley. Is it?
It’s a street where children used to play.
Where families once lived.
Now, where souls can be bought, ‘two a penny.’
Sold on by the devil to make a fast buck.
So, tell me, who has yours?
Nightly brawls.
A quick fumble in the dark recesses.
A quick hook up.
A quick fix.
Where money changes hands.
Deals made costs lives.
Perhaps yours.
Perhaps your family.
All the same to the devil.
And there’s one round every corner.
