Stark warnings

They said it wouldn’t happen again.
It happened again. And again.
They said they would learn lessons.
They never did. They never do.

So many children. So many dead.
And just like then, the tragedies rage.
Just like then the children suffer.
Just like then the mothers weep.

And remember, if nothing else,
we are all someone’s children.
Whether young or old, rich or poor,
we are all someone’s child.
