What if...?
Beginning a thought with the words What If?… is inspiring. It takes you out of your comfort zone. As they say…makes you think.
What if… that day I’d turned left, instead of right?
Got on the bus… and not the train?
Not taken that moment to look up?
I would have never seen you; your beautiful blue eyes, sparkling.
What if… I’d said no, instead of yes?
I wouldn’t be stood here with you right now,
Holding your hand,
Saying I do.
What if… we said yes more often than we said no?
Smiled instead of frowning, or worst still, growling?
Thought before and not after?
Cared about humanity? Really cared?
What if… war was removed from the dictionary, because no one knew what it meant?
What if… we could stop the killing?
What would it take?
How long?
What if… society was fairer?
Life was fairer?
Greed was a thing of the past.
Hunger and poverty wiped off the face of the earth?
What if… our children; our girls were seen as rightful citizens?
Were taught about accounts, instead of how to change a dolls nappy?
There’d be more women builders; bankers, and entrepreneurs.
We’d have more opportunities.
What if… they changed back the self-service tills to human beings?
I wouldn’t mind going shopping again.
Raged war on the giants instead of the little people.
Spent our money wisely?
What if… they stopped turning the clocks back?
What would that look like?
What if… governments weren’t so bloody reckless with our money?
Stopped being hypocrites?
What if… I’d not been so busy?
What if… we’d all not been so busy?
What would life look like?
What if… what if… what if?
