Chapter 1
Introduction
We are living in a world of constant change and chaos and it would be so easy to give in right now. But insight into reality brings with it the understanding we can no longer bury our heads in the sand and hope that by knuckling-down we will get through life and the tumultuous world in which we find ourselves. Within the last few years life has taken on new challenges and new meanings, as we continue to navigate the many stormy seas emerging right in front of us, and those yet to come. It is almost certain that whilst we may have more calm and blustery days ahead, there are still many storms beyond the horizon coming our way. One of those storms is change.
Managing change can be an uphill struggle. It is so much easier to carry on simply doing what you’re doing. But is it? Change can often be forced upon us; redundancy; change of role; family breakups; the need to move house and so much more. Staying in your comfort zone may mean you are ill prepared to deal with it, when the inevitable comes along.
For some, the need for change when it does come may present opportunities never dreamed of; but sadly for others, fear and untold misery. When forced upon us change can send our hearts and minds reeling out of control. Don’t let forced change be the norm, instead take some time now to look around you and decide what change you need to make voluntarily, before it’s too late.
My book is designed to help you develop your skills, and abilities so you are able not only to effectively manage the change you want to happen, but when unexpected change knocks on your door, you are more prepared to deal with it.
For that change to become embedded however, the change has to begin with you. You get to choose your own reality, your own life, but only if you decide that it’s what you really want. Don’t be afraid you have left it too late. It is never too late. Decide what you want, what you need to change. Pay attention to your rambling thoughts and ideas; they are creating your narrative. Look around you, wherever you look friends, colleagues, family, your neighbours are creating new opportunities. They didn’t make excuses. Neither should you. No playing the victim here.
Often it is something dramatic that shifts the cogs and gets the pistons working. Find what it is you need to do and do it. After all, creating positive change in your life doesn’t have to be daunting.
Take a look at your life from many different angles. Determine how far you can really push yourself throughout the next year or so to create the life you want. Don’t blame time, age or inexperience for any previous procrastination and be prepared for the unexpected. When you start on your journey all sorts of things begin to happen.
